Carpet Blues

Saturday was one of those days where I wished we never would have gotten out of bed. We had plans to put away the Christmas decorations and paint the office. Remember how I said that one of my New Year's Resolutions was to do something that scared me once a month? Well, my friends, I decided to choose a very bold color for the office... one of which I wasn't absolutely sure would go with the rest of our netural house decor. The color I settled on was a turquoise/seafoam color. I thought a 'pop' of color would be nice.

I returned home on Friday with paint in hand and set it on the ledge on the stairway as that's the first place to set stuff right when you come into our house. Fast forward to Saturday when I ask Casey if he can take the tree out of the house. He happily obliges. On his way out the door, I hear a big boom and just think that he knocked the gate off the top of the stairs, but then I look a little closer.... the paint can had been knocked off the ledge at the top of the stairs and split open and was pouring out onto the top step and onto the second step. Here is a picture after we soaked up most of the paint (3/4 of the gallon poured out).

We soon realized it was a lost cause to try and salvage the carpet at all. I made a few quick phone calls and was scheduled someone to come out Monday to replace the carpet. Luckily we had a remanent left over from the original installation.

If only the story would have ended there, though. Since we had a little paint left, I decided to paint a swatch in the office to make sure we liked the color before I went to go get more paint. Casey was busy doing something and decided he needed his drill. As he went downstairs to get his drill, King Jonzy decided to follow him. As he followed Casey, he stepped in the paint and managed to paint about 50 blue paw prints down the remaining stairs and in the rec room located in the basement. Who ever said this dog doesn't have talent? I think he circled around a couple of times before he realized where Casey was.

In the hustle and bustle of grabbing the carpet cleaner and scrubbing. And scrubbing. Scrubbing for 3 whole hours, I didn't get a picture. I know, I know, my priorities were not in line! Here is a picture of one of Jonzy's feet AFTER getting in the bath. You will probably have to click on it to even see the paint.
This picture really doesn't do it any justice. All of his four paws were covered in paint and one of his front forearms was too. Lets just say Jonzy is happy to be alive today and we are so glad that Saturday is over.

Christmas time

It's sure starting to feel a lot like Christmas around here. The Christmas tree is up and stockings are hung. We battled Caden in the fight for Christmas pictures, but I'm pretty sure we won. {You will have to let us know if we're right} We have yet to buy some gifts and our yearly ornament. No worries though, we have lots of time. This is the time where I like to wind down and enjoy the holidays- the friends and family that surround us and all of the great blessings we have.

{Don't forget to enter my giveaway here... you have until midnight tonight}

Winter is Coming

Butterfly collage from aliedwards
Isn't this butterfly collage just wonderful? It would be very easy to recreate. Buy a paper punch and differnt types of paper (or better yet, use magazines and books that you have laying around). This is going on my list of things to do as it's just my style. Simple, fun, creative and unique.

Here's a random update on the happenings at our house.
  1. Caden is quite the little cruiser. He loves to walk along the furniture and pull himself up on everything. He can even stand alone for a couple seconds. One thing that has thrown him off this week is the time change. He has been getting up at 5am sharp no matter what time we put him down for bed. Have I told you how happy I am that it's Friday? That means I can try to take a nap this weekend. (Try=it usually doesn't happen, but atleast it's an option).
  2. Jonzy is sad that winter is coming. As if he doesn't get outside enough already. The good thing is once it gets really cold, we let him go outside without the leash and he runs around until he is freezing and comes back inside. If we let him go off leash during the summer, we wouldn't see him for several hours.
  3. We had a lot of fall family shoots and we are busy getting everything processed and ordered (and packaged!). It's not too late to take holiday family pictures so contact us if you are interested. We do picture parties too so if you want to get a group of your friends together we will set up our studio at your house and fire away. It's quick, easy and fun. We also updated the website... feel free to take a look at some recent pictures.
  4. I need some new recipes. I am falling into the cook-the-same-meals-over-and-over trap and it's not rewarding at all. Have a good fall recipe? Email it to me. Who knows... you & your recipe may be featured right here. Now who wouldn't want that? It's like fame and fortune in a small, small package. Well, fame atleast.

Vive le weekend!!

Halloween

Here are the kiddos on Halloween. We went to grandma and grandpa's house and Aunts and Uncles. Caden didn't quite know what to think of his costume, but he sure had fun looking at everyone else. Caden was a frog and Jonzy was a ballerina.

Red Barn and my many rants

image via flickr
I have red barns on the mind today. It probably has something to do with fall. I've always wanted to have a barn dance in the fall. You know, a bon fire with honky music playing and everyone doing the dosey-do. Swing your partner round-n-round. Can't you just hear it?

Well, this leads me to my post today. Really it's just a round and round sort of post. (Read: A bunch of random Mumbo Jumbo... now you know how I got the name for my blog... I know-- how original! End sidenote). Last week Casey and I were able to go to lunch. This hasn't happened in ages sans Caden. It was delightful and it's just like we were back in our own little dating world. The world where we would ride around in the old blue slug bug and kiss at red lights. Sweet romance, I tell you. Now our red lights are filled with climbing over the seat to make sure Caden has what he needs, or to swat away the dog from making a popsicle out of him (because he licks Caden THAT much).

Speaking of licking, I love, love, LOVE carmel apples and I need to make some very, very soon. Too bad my parents apple tree has stopped giving us love. I'm sure Caden would love some apples now. He is busy eating everything that comes in his way. Including dog food and lint. Yummy, yummy. I bet you're hungry right now. Speaking of hungry, did I tell you what Casey said last night? He said that we should cut down on our meat intake. Crazy, I know! I tend to agree with him, but we are the meat and potatoes kind of family so this will be hard. He mentioned tofu and I think I shriveled up and died right there. I don't like tofu. I repeat, I don't like tofu. Maybe the dog would eat my tofu... he is on a slight diet as the vet said he's gaining wait too rapidily. Have you seen our dog? Yeah, he's big, but I pretty sure he is suppose to be. So our dog is probably starving. Especially now that Caden's eating some of his food.

Now aren't you glad that I brought you up to date on all of our randomness? You are probably starving now so I will whip you up some carmel apples. Do you want any special toppings on yours?

Telegram

Dear readers,
Hello my friends! I know it has been awhile since you have been graced with my presence and slobbery kisses. Please bow. Thank you.

As you know, I demand attention and not just any attention, but the attention only a King deserves. Speaking of attention, ever since this little Prince Caden entered the picture, things have not been the same. Our nightly walks have been shaved down to a brisk neighborhood walks. Albeit, sometimes Casey gets a wild hair and decides to take me running with him... for 6 miles. I almost had a heart attack.

Back in the day, I could make my parents laugh. Oh, the fun we had. Long gone are the days of them laughing at my flatulence issues. Even with my flatulence, they think it's the Prince almost every time. I dearly believe I should get credit where credit is due. It's a good thing I love the little Prince. He lets me give him endless amounts of kisses and he actually talks to me. It's a bunch a babbling nonsense, but it sure is cute. He also has the best toys. Many of them squeak and make weird warrior sounds. They are my favorite and lucky for me, the parents forget to put them up every once and awhile and I have the honor of playing with them throughout the night. It's a good thing I have the Prince around. This house is fit for a King, but needs a Prince too.

Regards,
King Jonzy

P.S. Slobbery kiss

(he always gets ya when you least expect it)

Jonzy the Wonder Dog

Over the weekend, I decided to take Jonzy on a little ride to the post office. I feel bad for the little guy as he doesn't get the attention he probably deserves these days. It was so nice out so I cranked down the windows. I didn't realize that the windows went ALL the way down in the back seat.

I had just stopped at an intersection and was going probably 5-10 miles an hour and Jonzy sees another dog outside that he wants to say 'hi' to. So he decides to jump out the window! I quickly stop the car to make sure he's okay. He doesn't seem phased at all. So we hop back in the car after apologizing the the woman walking her dog. (How's that for scaring the crap out of someone?)

Jonzy now has bumps all over, but he is doing well. His chin and mouth got beat up pretty bad, but as you can see above it is all healing really well. Now our dog just looks like he has a goatee.

Happy Birthday Mr. Jonzy!!!

Jonzy's been feeling a little left out since Caden arrived so I thought it would be suiting to wish him a happy 2nd birthday. (Since he's an avid reader of my blog and all).

It is by chance that we lucked out on getting Mr. Jonzy. The breeder was going to keep him for his very own because he was pick of the litter. One day the breeder decided that he should give Brewtus (that's what the breeder called him) up. We lucked out and changed his name to Jonzy because we thought it was a much more playful name and not so intimidating.

We love you Jonzy!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUDDY!!

Life according to Jonzy

Mr. Jonzy meets a little moose along his journey on the home front. Jonzy likes the little moose except for one problem.... He squeaks. Apparently Jonzy finds this squeak annoying.

Jonzy isn't happy until the squeak is gone. Rest in peace, little Moosey. RIP. Jonzy will cherish your squeaker.

Home bound

Most of my weekend was spent in one of two places: the couch or the bathroom. I probably jinxed myself when I said this last week...

"Gosh, it would be nice to just sit around the house and do nothing for a couple days."

It sucked. Royally. There's nothing worse than having a forcible "let's do nothing weekend."

And poor Casey was home right beside me all weekend playing nurse. And what a nurse he was. Jonzy really likes to cuddle with a sick person. He way of cuddling is laying on the sick person's lap or stomach. I appreciate the gesture and all, but I just can't stand it when I have to remove a 70 lb. dead weight dog off me before I make a mad dash for the loo. So really, Casey was on Jonzy duty all weekend. And Casey made several trips to the store for me. Sprite, please. He brought me home cold Sprite. Warm sprite, please. Needless to say, Casey was ready to leave the house by Friday night, but being the guy he is, he stuck by me the whole weekend. What a guy, what a guy. I luv him oh so much.

I'm feeling better and will be leaving the house today. Hooray for feeling good (and being able to eat too)!!! Have a great Monday.

Overflowing with Love

Have I told you how much I love this guy? He is seriously the best husband in the world for so many reasons.... many of which I can't tell you about. However, this weekend in the season of celebrating the holidays, we had some friends over. Not only did he get everything ready for the party because I had a really bad headache, but he was also quite the entertainer while everyone was over.

Last night we came to the obvious conclusion that it's never going to be "just the two of us" anymore. Never. Ever. And we are okay with that. Well, mostly. I love hanging out with my man and could easily spend another 10 years alone with the guy.

And I love this little guy alot too. He makes me laugh so much and always makes my bad moods go away. Having a bad day? Just let Jonzy give you a nice little greeting (okay, big greeting with a wiggling booty and all) and I promise all your bad feelings will go away. It's no wonder they say having pets decreases depression and anxiety. I can tell you this is so true.

Thankful all around

Make this turkey here

I am thankful for traveling. This weekend, we are off to Utah to visit Casey's family. I might as well live there, huh? Well, this will be our last trip before the baby comes (and probably for quite sometime after he's here). And it will be fun because it will be all fun and no business this time. (And Casey will be there with me). Sorry Jonzy, we love you, but plane rides don't. Christian will definitely miss you. Hopefully you will have fun at the dog hotel. (It is really like a depressing dog camp. I hate taking him there. This will be about his 5th time going and my goal is to not cry when I have to drop him off. Last time, I only shed one tear. He usually ends up catching something and doesn't get the exercise he needs. Sounds like daycare, huh?) Oh, how am I going to take my kid to daycare? I have trouble enough dropping the dog off.

On a lighter note, I am so thankful for the mountains and skiing. I'm hoping the mountains have lots of snow and maybe Casey and I can go skiing one day. I didn't think I'd be up for it, but I might seriously entertain it. I feel great and my balance is still pretty good. Trust me, you wouldn't be worried if you have seen my mad skiing abilities. :)

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

See you in a week!

The 9 year olds

This is Casey's little brother, Christian with Jonzy. While we were visiting we figured out that Jonzy is near 9 years old in dog years. It's no wonder they were a perfect match!
