DIY Borax Snowflakes

This fun project is both a science and craft project all rolled into one.  So my son really, really loved it.  He is almost 4 and needed a lot of help from me to do this project, but he still rocked it.

SUPPLIES:

• Borax


• Pipe Cleaner


• String


• Scissors


• Pen or pencil


• Glass jar


• Water

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Cut your pipe cleaner into 3.


2. Twist it so it looks like a snowflake.


3. Add borax to boiling water (3 TBSP. for each cup of water) and stir.


4. Tie a string around the snowflake.  Then tie a knot at the top of the string so it can rest on the jar with the help of the pen or pencil.


5. Place the snowflake into the glass jar.  Make sure it's not resting on the bottom.


6. Let them sit in a safe place overnight.


7. Pull out your beautiful snowflakes after you wake up in the morning!

Aren't they beautiful?  I've hung some on our backdoor and even though it's cloudy here right now, they still catch a little bit of light.  These would also make great ornaments or gift toppers.
