Shipping Container Home

Have you seen Home Contained?  It's a company that will make a home for you out of shipping containers.  Love the modern feel to the home!

What do you think?  Would you be willing to try a home built from shipping containers?  My biggest concern would be insulating the home.

This is a little too modern for me. I like WOOD! and brick and, well, I was born to live in the house out of the Addams Family:)

wow. This is exactly what I need! When my containers show up, they could build me a house and move my furniture right in! :-)

Living in NE, my worry is: How well do they hold up in a tornado? Ha!

I first heard about container houses/cottages a few years ago and now have a complete obsession for them. Whenever I see a truck or a train going by with a container on it, I'm mentally trying to figure out what the dimensions are so I can plan the rooms. I prefer older style homes but I don't know why you couldn't add some vintage elements to mix with the modern and have a wonderful cottage.

I agree with Grace: I have a container obsession, too. I'd love to have a container home -- but I'd settle for a container "studio" with lots of art supplies, natural light, and quiet.

Building with containers is worth taking a look at if you are contemplating a new home.

Good resource is the Residential Shipping Container Primer website. A DO IT YOURSELF (DIY) REFERENCE AND FOR CONVERTING RECYCLED INTERMODAL CARGO SHIPPING CONTAINERS INTO BUILDINGS AND ARCHITECTURE.

http://www.ResidentialShippingContainerPrimer.com

Lots of example buildings, details, facts, and links to other articles. They have something new that you can setup your own project wiki to get help with your project if you are the design build sort...

I like it! How much would something like this cost on average .. that's my question.
