Before Redesign: Mike's Bedroom

Mike just painted an accent wall in his bedroom.  He is off to a great start with a redesign, don't you think?  It's just amazing what paint alone can do.  We will now help him put on the finishing touches to his bedroom.

Here are Mike's answers to our design questions.  Feel free to leave any design ideas in the comments.

What are your favorite design store/home décor stores?  They can be brick and mortar stores or online stores.

We love bringing in elements from our travels -- such as Latin American folk art, Italian and Spanish market finds. But as for the more conventional shopping destinations: Target, Urban Outfitters, IKEA (although we have a love/hate relationship with them), flea markets and thrift/second-hand stores.

What 3 words would you use to describe yourself and the feeling of the space you'd like?

Tranquil, artsy, cozy

What is the most important thing you’d like done with the space?

There's a lot of empty space in the bedroom. The new paint and decorative elements bring a lot of character to the room, but we still have a lot of available floor space. Since we have adequate storage (walk-in closets), we didn't really see the need for bedroom furniture. There's no point in getting a chest of drawers and dresser if they are going to be empty. But now we feel folded clothes would be stored in drawers. the space just seems unfinished.

What are two of your favorite and least favorite colors?

Favorite colors: blue and green
Least favorite: gray and fuchsia

What are the overall dimensions, including ceiling height (if applicable) of your space?

13W x 14L x 8H

Is there anything else you’d like us to include or consider in designing your space?

We spend about 50% of our non-bedtime in the bedroom either reading, surfing the internet, grading papers, or watching TV. We have a lot of space in the house, but spend the majority of our time in this one room. It's important to us to maintain this retreat.
