My parents have had a tomato explosion in their garden this year. I think it has something to do with these special cages they used. We have canned 81 quarts of stewed tomatoes and about 25 pints of salsa. BTW, the salsa is awesome! We made so many batches that by the last one we had it perfected. If you like chunky salsa with a kick, this is the salsa for you!
Chalk one up for our best canning season ever. If we need food storage in the immediate future, looks like it's going to be tomato something for every meal. Now that we have a house and a place to have a food storage, I need to get going on it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get started?

I got a really good form from the 56th street building. It was on one of the bulletin boards. You spend $5 a week to stock up on certain items and then by the end of a year, you have a good deal of food storage!
What is the salsa recipe? I need to get started on that food storage too. So far I have the shelving it's going on:)
I don't think I'm the one to help with food storage. . .I was cleaning out the basement and found our 72 hour kit that I put together in 1998 for an enrichment project. . .all sealed together in a big bucket. . .hmm. . .that was interesting to open. . . and smell.
And are you sure you weren't born a mormon. . .since you're such a canner????
my word verification. . .the closest I've ever had to an actual word. . .pizzhjea.
Thanks Christy... I picked one up this Sunday. Now I need to see if I can stick to it.
Hollie- We just thru a little bit of this and a little bit of that... no real recipe, but it has Serrano peppers, cilantro, salt and pepper, onions a little bit of lime and of course tomatoes. We just had some friends visiting and they are moving to Virginia Beach. Anywhere close to you?
Wendy- I know. You would think I was raised mormon. However, we only can tomatoes and pickles. But I guess it's better than nothing, right?
