Giveaway: Shabby Apple

The winner is #35, Heather S.  Thanks to all those who entered!

What a whirlwind of a weekend!  As you know, we went off to Minnesota this weekend, and love it!  Many thanks to so all our great readers, I didn't have trouble finding good food and a little fun along the way.  We found a great home that we adore, and wish we could put in an offer.  We have to wait until we see some action on our current home before we can do anything.  Le sigh.

We were very encouraged looking at other homes on the market.  There is something to be said for how clean and decluttered our home is.  We spent many hours purging, organizing and deep cleaning in the two weeks of preparation of getting our home market ready, but I think (I hope) it was worth it.

{Kanani}

If this were a "normal" year, I'd be cleaning and purging out my closets right now.  Is that something you are working on with your spring cleaning list?  Here are something things I keep in mind when giving my closet some spring cleaning action:

  1. If I haven't worn something in over a year, it goes.

  2. There are certain things I like to hoard: sweaters and shoes.  I have a hard time letting go of any of these.  I usually call my husband in as a reinforcement.  He knows I struggle with these areas and pushes me to get my pitch on.

  3. I challenge myself by saying I can buy something off my wishlist if I fill two garbage bags.

So here is our challenge to you:

Go to your closet, pick one thing you've been having trouble throwing out.  Remember those Birkenstocks you haven't worn since 1997?  Yeah, it might be time to let them go.  Or that baggy shirt you have just in case.  Let it go.

{San Gabriel}

And then we have a reward for one of you.

A dress from Shabby Apple.  Oh yes, we are bringing it.

{Five to Nine}

To enter the giveaway, do the following before Sunday midnight {CST}:

  1. Leave a comment below telling us what your pitching from your closet.

  2. Like Shabby Apple on Facebook

Good luck and the winner will be announced on Monday!

After this baby is born, EVERYTHING, and I mean everything (clothes, underclothes, socks, and shoes---except maybe my favorite flip flops) is going! My own private What Not to Wear.

I have a super-cute pair of pink heels that I have been holding on to. I don't know if I am afraid I'll never find another cute pink pair or what, but I haven't gotten rid of them yet. And they hurt my feet sooooo bad!

Hmmm... Can I say something of my husband's I'd like to get rid of? For me I'd say some of the ratty old tees I've been hanging on too. I'm embarrassed to admit I still layer them under other things but it's past time for them to hit the road!

I have several full boxes ready to go to Goodwill or Salvation Army...clothes from the last decade when I was 40 lbs. heavier, mostly. Also some ugly shirts I've finally torn from my husband's grasp and some baby clothes that were well-meant but hideous gifts. I'll be glad to see them go go go!

I've been a Shabby Apple fan on FB for at least a year! Such cute stuff!

I am getting rid of my Old Navy Basic tees. I never wear any of them! They're stretched out, too short, or stained. They'll make a good addition to the fabric scrap pile!

I've got a bag of button down shirts where the sleeves/torso are too short for me waiting to be dropped off at Goodwill!

I hoard sweaters and shoes too. I am filling a bag as we speak of hand me downs that are cute, but just don't quite fit right.(Maybe that's why they were given to me. hmmm.) I really need a new dress - bro in law's wedding coming up. I'm crossing my fingers!

I'm going to be realistic and get rid of all those size 0's! Also all the old t-shirts, how many could I possibly need! I "like" Shabby Apple on FB too! :) This is fun.

I gave away a pair of red boots I loved but haven't been able to wear for years because the heels are too high.

Wow..this is so tough! I tend to hang on to ALL of my clothes! But I did recently find a pair of jeans that are too big, and I hope not to "grow into them...." (haha!) so I think I'll get rid of them!

There's a shirt that I bought to go to a party when I was a sophomore in college. I spent $94 on it and I just haven't been able to bear getting rid of it! The print is just beautiful, but the style is so 10 years ago!

I've gotten rid of shoes, purses, baseball caps from various events, & sweaters. Feels good to get rid of stuff I don't need anymore & give it to someone who does.

Just today I found a dress with BIG shoulder pads. :P I put that in the Goodwill bag!

Love this post as I have been cleaning closets the last week. I have a pair of black boots that are so cute - but not so comfortable that I have had for several years (without wearing even once!) and they are going...

I have been pitching clothes since we left Morocco. Anything long and baggy... gone! I feel so modern now! :-)

I'm getting rid of a skirt that is too short for me to wear anymore, at my age. Not that I'm that old, but I'm not 22 anymore, and I have no idea why I still have this skirt.

Strangely enough did not have any difficulty pruning my wardrobe this year, but I saved all the pieces for "repurposing" - have to see how far that goes

Leanna said...

I have some old sweaters that need to go. I have been holding on to them for no reason really...

Jenny @ DIY Newlyweds said...

I just got a huge stack of old sweaters ready to donate to Goodwill. It feels so good to get rid of stuff I know I'll never wear.

I am totally ready to do a spring cleaning this weekend! I tend the same few things over and over so its time to purge those shirts that I thought I might wear last year but never did!

Michelle W said...

I purged so many coats/jackets from our two closets! I don't know how we acquired so many, but we cut down to just 3 jackets each. 1 for snow, 1 for spring, and 1 for fall.

Rebecca T. said...

Perhaps I will pitch skinny jeans that are just a bit too skinny. Oddly enough they seem to squeeze my knee caps!

Jeans. Kept way too many for way too long. Getting rid of 3 pairs. Grateful we found a local charity at a public housing complex that gives the items to the residents.
