Weekend Project Fail: Squid-shade

Have you ever thought about a project and it looked fantastic in your mind, but then went to do it and it didn't look so great?  Yep, me too!  Remember when I let you know what I was going to work on this past weekend?  I decided to tackle the lampshade and can I just say it was a complete fail!  I had in my mind that I would use strips of satin ribbon and attach them to the circular lampshade frame to make a nice, striped lampshade.  Then maybe if it worked I'd try switching out some of the ribbon pieces for some different, coordinating colors.  Well, I spent a few hours cutting and attaching the strips and ended up with a squid looking lampshade:

Exhibit A: Fail Squid-shade

Have you ever had a fabulous project you wanted to do, but the execution was a little off?  Please share and know that even the best have fails every now and again!

I might have said you could take a lampshade frame that had a top and bottom (with nothing in the center) and use one long bit of ribbon and just loop from top to bottom. Depending on how you angled it, it could create a nice diagonal stripe or a vertical one ... Either way, I don't think it's a complete fail!

ps. I think your ribbon lampshade would work if you wrapped it around a rim on top and bottom...kind of like this one:

This post pretty much summed up my life! Ha! I don't know how you designers visualize things- it's a true gift.

So do you girls have a favorite over the dining table light right now? (Having another hard time visualizing...)

It might not have turned out the way you visualized it, but I think it is really unique and is not really a fail at all!
