The Warrior and the Worrier

Happy Leap Year Day!! This is the day that we were kind of hoping that Caden was going to be born. I mean, how fun would it be to have a big birthday bash every four years? And even more fun than that... how fun would it be to tell him that he could drive or date until he was 16... or really 64?

Anyways, on to my post.... I used to be a person of routines, but now I figure there's just no point... here's the ultimate contrast of life pre and post baby.

Pre-baby
Up by 6:45 am (atleast M-F)
Off to work 8-5 M-F
Home by 5:30
Exercise- walking or running around the park
Dinner between 8 & 9
In bed at 10:30pm

Post-baby
Change diaper
Feed
Burp

Repeat

Okay, maybe that's more of a routine than I thought. However, this little guy is unpredictable. One night, he will scream the night away so I go through the entire reprotoire a couple of times before he's satisfied. Diaper, feed, burp repeat. Diaper. Feed. Burp. Repeat. Lions, tigers and bears. Oh my!

Then there was last night. I fed the little warrior at 10:30 which means he was in bed by 11:30. It wasn't until 5:00 am that he was up to feed. A miracle and mommy couldn't ask for a better end to the week. (Even though I was up twice freaking out and making sure the little warrior was okay).

Ah, yes I have new mommy syndrome. I am a worrier, I must admit. His doctor said that Caden shouldn't be out and about for six weeks because it's RSV season. In his own words he also said "Caden shouldn't be around anyone that's not old enough to drive for six weeks for fear that he will catch something." I've had friends with children that have had RSV and frankly, I don't want to risk it. I've caught a little flack over this issue because people think I will surely go insane or because I'm being too overprotective. Well, I'm not going insane. Not yet anyways, and if I think I am, I will then think about taking him out and about. But until then, my gut tells me to listen to the doctor on this one.

moms always know best! Enjoy the first six weeks- they grow up way too fast!

OH, that's definitely a routine!! It is amazing how quickly you pick up the mother instinct, though... I was the same way and don't regret being overly cautious at all! RSV is one scary condition-- I've had a neice and a nephew stop breathing because of it. Better safe than sorry!

Can you believe how much there is to worry about?? I used to be a sane, logical person.... I'm the same way about RSV; we rarely go out and Bennett is older. Luckily, the worst of RSV season is almost over, according to his doctor.

I agree, better to be safe than sorry! Sounds like you are doing great! How awesome that he slept for you!

Go with your gut and intuition!! You will not regret taking him out. Hang in there with the roller coater ride, at some point you will have a routine...But then again there are always surprises!!!

WE wish Caden the best!! We don't want him to get sick either. So we will try to not bug you guys too much, but it's hard to stay away from the little guy, but we will do our best!

We love you- The Jané gang

Good for you for listening to the doctor! Sometimes I think people feel pressure to bring their newborns out to church etc. too early. I also have a cousin that kept her baby in and he now has rsv and she swears it was from the dang doctors office.
